2 )The applicant is advised that, notwithstanding any consent which may be issued under the provision of the Town and County Planning Acts it is an offence under Section 143 of the Highways Act 1980, to erect any further advertisement signs in the confines of the highway so that it causes an obstruction. In this context 'highway' includes any footway, verge, lay-by or carriageway which is maintained at public expense.The applicant is advised that, notwithstanding any consent which may be issued under the provision of the Town and County Planning Acts it is an offence under Section 143 of the Highways Act 1980, to erect any further advertisement signs in the confines of the highway so that it causes an obstruction. 3 )Not withstanding the consent issued under the Town and Country Planning Act, a licence issued under the provisions of Section 178 of the Highways Act 1980 is required prior to the erection of any part of the projection into or over the public highway.
