)'The application area lies within the Wrest Park 18th century outbuildings, statues, and gardens Scheduled Monument NHLE1005407. Under the terms of the 1979 Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act this is protected heritage site. Certain works to a Scheduled Monument require Scheduled Monument Consent from the Secretary of State for the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. If the proposed works require Scheduled Monument Consent, the Applicant is responsible for ensuring that it is obtained prior to any development works commencing. Failure to obtain consent prior to the commencement of any works listed in the 1979 Act could result in criminal prosecution.'
This advice is in line with Policy HE1 of the Central Bedfordshire Local Plan 2015-2035 (adopted July 2021), paragraphs 195, 200-203 of the NPPF (Dec 2023) and the Ancient
